As the biennial election for 11 legislative council seats in Bihar approaches in April next year, senior Congress leaders, including former Union ministers, are actively seeking accommodation.

The term of several prominent figures, including CM Nitish Kumar and former CM Rabri Devi, is set to expire on May 6. While biennial polls for six Rajya Sabha seats are due in March, the focus within the Congress party seems to be on the legislative council elections, with Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh eyeing re-election for a second term.

Despite the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Singh's re-election appears to take precedence, leading to other senior leaders, such as Tariq Anwar, Shakeel Ahmad, Chandan Yadav, and Pravin Kushwaha, actively lobbying for legislative council seats. The dynamics of the legislative council elections are perceived as more manageable, requiring the votes of only 21 MLAs, compared to 37 needed for the Rajya Sabha.

The internal discussions within the BPCC suggest that leaders are considering caste combinations and the potential impact of AICC's revamp in determining the fate of candidates, emphasizing the intricate political landscape.
